During Sister Wives season 18, episode 2,
Paedon Brown was very sweet to his mother Christine Brown,
but threw shade at Kody Brown and Robyn Brown.
Kody’s had issues with a lot of his kids, including Paedon and Gwendlyn Brown. His daughter Gwendlyn even takes to YouTube to criticize her dad and his one remaining wife, Robyn. In a memorable rant, Gwendlyn called Kody out for spending too much money. Now, Paedon’s in the spotlight, due to things he said during a cozy kitchen chat with his mom Christine.
Kody gets a lot of criticism, and despite hearing so many bad things about his personality and conduct, he seems to lack self-awareness. He may have a narcissistic streak which makes him lash out when he’s dissed, rather than trying to understand where people are coming from – even if they’re his own kids. In Sister Wives season 18, episode 2, Paedon seemed overjoyed that his mom left Kody. He was all smiles in the kitchen, cracking jokes about Kody and Robyn’s, “weak immune systems,” and generally making it crystal clear that he’s on his mom’s side.
Paedon Appreciates His Mother Christine
Christine has so many strengths as a person. As a mother, she really shines. She’s a nurturer who’s also a vibrant, energetic woman. Christine listens to her kids, goes out of her way to visit them, and believes in them. Kody’s dynamic with his kids is more complicated. It was troubling when Paedon embarrassed his father during the pandemic, by claiming that Kody never got vaccinated. Usually, love is protective. When one person throws another under the bus, it tells a story. Paedon wanted to hurt his dad, or he would never have done that. Did Kody hurt Paedon first? If so, how?
Well, Paedon had to grow up in a polygamous family. That can carry a stigma, and Kody was the prime mover in that decision. Kids may be embarrassed by their parents’ plural marriages, and also have to deal with the pressures of living in such large families. Paedon has 17 siblings, so maybe he feels like he doesn’t get enough attention from Kody. All the children have probably felt short-changed at one time or another.
Also, Kody’s issues with Christine surely influence how this well-known son feels about his controversial father. If Christine felt sad because Kody preferred Robyn, that might have made Paedon angry. Of course, he’d want his mother to be loved the most. Anything Christine was feeling, which Paedon sensed or Christine told him about, may have affected him. In a way, he might have been storing up rage for years, which started to seep out when Paedon was old enough to say what he wanted online.
Paedon Has Questioned Kody’s Manliness
In the past, Paedon seemed to think that his father was weak, as Paedon believed that a truly powerful person wouldn’t need to constantly refer to himself as the king of a household. Kody’s very hung up on being the big-time patriarch, perhaps to a fault. In light of all that’s happened, he didn’t play that role very well. In season 18, the Brown family’s falling apart, and Kody may be worried about his patriarch image as much as anything.
He didn’t really seem to love Christine, so why would he get so heated when she left? It’s probably tied into how he sees himself. When she fled, she destroyed his all-powerful polygamist image in one fell swoop. By doing so, she punctured a rather narcissistic ego, and seemingly brought out the beast in Kody. Money may also have been on Kody’s mind. He could have been angry with Christine for leaving, as that might negatively impact his earning power. He’s supposed to multiply, not subtract. Without Christine, he lost something, and that makes him feel powerless.
Before she left, Kody kept his wives in the fold, even when he treated them badly. He had enough power over them to keep them in line. Now, he’s like the Wizard of Oz after the curtain was pulled back. He may feel like less of a man, although he really shouldn’t. These “corrections” in the plural marriage were necessary for everyone’s sanity, including his. Kody got into the whole polygamy game very young, as did Meri. They surely didn’t know what they were getting into. They may have been brainwashed into their beliefs. For this reason, no one should lose all sympathy for Kody.
Regardless, in some ways, Kody’s kids have to pay the price. While dad was trying to be a good Christian, according to the admittedly “out there” rules of his Mormon sect, having so many kids made it tough to really bond with all of them. If Kody had only a couple of children, he might be perceived very differently, in terms of how he parents. Thanks to the sheer volume of kids, nothing he does will ever be good enough for all of them.
Paedon Has Issues With Robyn Too
Robyn always seems to make things worse, seemingly without trying to. She’s a passive-aggressive type who can wreak havoc without saying a rude word or giving a direct order. The “power behind the throne” Robyn was offended when Paedon was rude to her kids. Paedon thinks she’s still got issues with him. Obviously, that’s going to affect his relationship with his dad, because Robyn is omnipresent in his father’s life.
Overall, Paedon seemed happy in season 18, perhaps because his mother had the courage to break the ties that bind. Maybe he’d been wanting her to do that. He doesn’t think polygamy really works, and it’s hard to argue with that assessment. Sister Wives star Paedon brought some energy and excitement to episode two of the latest installment.
Like his mother, Paedon’s got an electric quality that the other Brown family members don’t seem to have. However, like his father, Paedon’s controversial. He’s a blend of his parent’s traits and quirks, and Sister Wives‘ Kody and Christine have very strong personalities. In some ways, they may have been too alike to get along, as both are quite stubborn sometimes.
